Jacob's world was the cotton growing South, Vicksburg, and New Orleans, where he established the city's largest commission house. He was a trusted adviser of Jefferson Davis and his closest friend. Davis died in Jacob's Garden District Home.
Moses, one of the largest land owners in America, was known as the "Millionaire Preacher". He established retail stores and manufacturing enterprises; outfitted emigrants going west with wagons, oxen , mules and supplies and equipment they would need in their new homes, and escorted at least one oxen train to the West Coast.
